		As our foothold in China and a center for future expansion, ScinoPharm Kunshan serves as a center for drug process development and for contract research and development. To address the demands of both multinational companies and local formulation companies, ScinoPharm is constructing a new GMP plant in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. The plant, slated to be fully operational by 2011, will be used for the production of GMP grade pharmaceutical intermediates initially, and later be equipped to handle API production.

ScinoPharm Kunshan (SPK) was established in 2001 as a move by ScinoPharm Taiwan into China . We currently have about 120 employees devoted to Process Development (25%), Analytical Research and Development (8%), quality and control assurance (14%) and production. We expect to continually expand our activities in China and the development of our staff will follow this goal.

Our Kunshan operation is focused on process R&D of APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) and API intermediates, scale-up of APIs intermediates, and non-GMP production of key intermediates as a captive service for our parent company, ScinoPharm Taiwan. This is conducted either to support our parent company's generic/brand API manufacturing business or for the pre-GMP portion of CRO projects.

Thus, the role of SPK within the ScinoPharm family is an upstream integration, primarily to support the parent company. We also perform generic API Analytical and Quality Measurement Development in our Analytical laboratories conducted under appropriate GMP conditions. In addition, SPK has also developed the synthesis of several key intermediates that could be of interest to customers. Our facility is well equipped with modern analytical equipment.

SPK is located in Kunshan, Jiangsu province about one hour west of Shanghai by car, or 18 minutes by fast train. Kunshan is a new, growing and modern city with a population of about 1 million with a relatively large foreign population involved in electronics, engineering, pharmaceuticals and other global industries. Our Kunshan operation is located in the Shanghai to Nanjing high-tech development belt.
