ScinoPharm's management team is comprised of a group of seasoned executives with many years working for leading U.S. and international pharmaceutical companies. At various times, they held significant positions within professional associations such as the Generic Pharmaceutical Industry Association (GPIA) and the Pharmaceutical Research Manufacturing Association (PhRMA).



 
C.Y. Kao C.Y. Kao | Chairman

Mr. Chin-Yen Kao founded the President Enterprises Group in 1968. It is one of the largest and perhaps the most respected company in Taiwan. Mr. Kao has been its only chairman and in recent years, has formed very successful international joint ventures with the U.S.' 7-11 Convenient Stores, Pepsi Drinks, Starbucks Coffee, France's Carrefour and Germany's Allianz. Prior to establishing the President's Group, Mr. Kao was the director of sales of Tainan Spinning Company. Due to the long history of successful ventures in Taiwan as well as Mainland China, Mr. Kao is considered a legendary businessman in the Pacific Rim and has held the position of Chairman of Taiwan's Industrial Manufacturer's Association in 1999.

Jo Shen Jo Shen, Ph.D | President & CEO

BS ChE; MS & Ph.D. Chemistry.

Jo Shen is the President and CEO of ScinoPharm where she also was a founding partner. She has over 25 years of experience in the management of chemical & pharmaceutical businesses with in-depth experiences in strategic planning, business and organization development, technology transfer, supply chain management, quality control and assurance, environmental safety & health, cGMP compliance and formulation development and manufacturing.

Before co-founding ScinoPharm, Dr. Shen was with Syntex for 14 years and Monsanto for 7 years. At Syntex, she was Corporate VP for Pharmaceutical Technology & Operations. Prior to that, she was at Monsanto as Electronic Materials Plant Manager and Superintendent of Quality Control Engineering.

Dr. Shen holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Lehigh University, a M.S. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Iowa and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University. Dr. Shen has served as Chairperson of Pharmaceutical Production Committee of PhRMA and in 1991, was given a "Woman In Industry" award by the YWCA in Santa Clara.

Hardy W. Chan Hardy W. Chan, Ph.D | Executive Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer | President, ScinoPharm Biotech | President, ScinoPharm Kunshan

B.S. Chemistry, Ph. D Biochemistry.

Currently the Executive Vice President of ScinoPharm Taiwan, Ltd., Dr. Chan is responsible for the company's Research and Development as well as Business Development. Dr. Chan is a co-founder of ScinoPharm and is also the Chairman of ScinoPharm Investments Ltd., a BVI registered company.

Prior to co-founding ScinoPharm, Dr. Chan was Vice President of Research and Director of Biotechnology for Syntex. Dr. Chan was also a member of Syntex's Committee on Biotechnology Investments and was a recipient of the distinguished Syntex's Chairman's Science Award.

Dr. Chan also serves as a senior adviser to the Taiwanese government, Industrial Technology Research Institute and to the Development Center for Biotechnology in Taiwan. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the National Cheng Kung University. Dr. Chan holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a B.S. in Chemistry from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Chan has over 60 scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and three published patents. .

Younan Shih Younan Shih Ph.D | Vice President, Quality Management
B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. Chemistry.

Dr. Younan Shih has 13 years experience in chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Shih spent 2 years at University of Minnesota as postdoctoral fellow studied on bio-organic chemistry. Prior to joining ScinoPharm in 1998, Dr. Shih spent 2 years worked on research and development at Kuo Tai Resin Ind. Co., Yung-Shing Pharmaceutical Co. and Academia Sinica. He then spent 7 years at Ciba-Geigy, Novartis, Ciba Specialty Chemicals on quality control and assurance, environment health & safety and product registration.

Dr. Shih holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Cornell University, a M.S. and B.S. both in Chemistry from Tamkang University. Dr. Shih is a member of Chinese Chemical Society, American Chemical Society, International Society Pharmaceutical Engineer.

Fred Chen

Yung-Fa (Fred) Chen | Vice President, R&D | Chief Operating Officer, ScinoPharm Kunshan

B.S., M.S. and Ph.D., Chemistry.

Dr. Chen has 13 years experience in chemical and pharmaceutical R&D. His expertise includes medicinal chemistry, process R&D and technology transfers. At ScinoPharm, Dr. Chen is responsible for Medicinal chemistry technical service as well as peptide and oligonucleotide technology development. In addition, Dr. Chen is responsible for ScinoPharm's Kun-Shan Process R&D operation.

Prior to joining ScinoPharm in 1998, Dr. Chen was employed for 7 years in the Refining and Manufacturing Research Center of Chinese Petroleum Corporation (CPC) where he worked on specialty chemical products and in process R&D. Before CPC, he was an adjunct professor of Chemistry at Tunghai University in Taiwan for 5 years, and at Wayne State University as a postdoctoral fellow of Medicinal Chemistry for two years.

Dr. Chen holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Wayne State University, a M.S. in Chemistry from National Taiwan University, and a B.S. from Tunghai University. Dr. Chen is the holder of six patents.

Ren-Der Yang

Ren-Der Yang | Consultant, Biotech Research and Development
Ph.D.Biochemical Engineering.

Dr. Yang has more than 25 years of professional experience in process development, scale-up, pilot plant operation, process design/engineering, technology transfer, process validation and cGMP manufacturing in the biopharmaceutical and biochemical industries.

Prior to ScinoPharm, Dr. Yang spent 8 years with Alpha-Beta Technology and 11 years with Pitman-Moore all in areas of developing biopharmaceutical products and processes, plant design and cGMP manufacturing. Earlier Dr. Yang worked for Bayer AG for 3 years and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for 3 years on fermentation and enzymatic process development.

Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University. Dr. Yang has published 9 papers in scientific journals and holds 3 patents covering methods for recovering recombinant proteins.

Ren-Der Yang

Kuo-Hsi Cheng | Vice-President, Operations
Ph.D., Industrial Hygiene

Kuo-Hsi Cheng has 12 years of experience in petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Cheng joined ScinoPharm in January, 1999, initially served as the Manager of EHS. Over the years, he has steadily expanded his responsibilities to include management of all small to medium production lines, Materials Management, Utility, EHS, Project Engineering, and Maintenance. Since January of 2007, he has also assumed the leadership role of the Resource Planning Group.

Prior to joining ScinoPharm, Dr. Cheng worked initially as EHS Engineer, later on was promoted to the Manager of EHS, for Grand Pacific Petrochemical Corporation located in Kaohsiung Ta-She Industrial Park from 1995 to 1998.

Dr. Cheng has a B.S. degree of Chemical Engineering from National Tsing-Hua University, M.S. degree of Environmental Sciences and Engineering from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Ph.D. of Industrial Hygiene from Johns Hopkins University. He is an active member of American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and was registered as qualified Environmental Auditor with Environmental Auditors Registration Association (EARA) in UK. He is also a certified class-A air pollution control professional and certified class-A safety and health superintendent in Taiwan.
