ScinoPharm has developed a capability that spans the entire spectrum of services required in the industry, including focus on new platform technologies and unique raw material situations for popular generic API's. In addition, ScinoPharm has the ability to manufacture high-potency, very toxic, and ultra-pure API's in very small to very large quantities, all in a U.S.-compliant cGMP environment. Costs are not the lowest in the world, but they are well below Western levels, while quality and regulatory compliance meet or exceed the most stringent Western standards.
Western Know-How
ScinoPharm's seasoned management offers many years of collective experience in the western Pharmaceutical industry. Our US-trained management personnel and talented work crew combines western know-how and quality with Asian cost benefits. English is ScinoPharm's primary business language. The heritage of the founders and original designers stems from extensive work experiences developed at large Pharma/Brand companies. ScinoPharm's work practices are based on this heritage. In addition, ScinoPharm continues to employ at its site several experienced Western scientists and production experts who assist and supervise our young workforce. They continue to search out experienced Taiwanese API employees of U.S. and European API companies who might be interested in returning to their homeland. This experience plus the language skills adds to ScinoPharm's ever-developing work force. The combination of the above provides a nice balance of multi-nationals and locals in the ScinoPharm family.
Large and Sophisticated Manufacturing and R&D Capabilities
ScinoPharm boasts a large, state-of-the-art, Western-designed facility located in lower-cost Asia that has now been certified by the US FDA. ScinoPharm has over 4 years of R&D and small-scale cGMP manufacturing experience and is proud of its large work force of over 375 (with 40% in process R&D), extensive and highly successful visits by Western customers and, many formally executed supply contracts. The main facility in Taiwan has oversized support infrastructure built and validated, allowing the main production assets to be rapidly expanded to meet unexpected surges in customer demand. Investment lead times are therefore very short, compared to expanding Western facilities.

Technical Expertise
Benefiting from in-depth international and US/FDA pharmaceutical and regulatory experience, our senior management team has successfully recruited a highly professional team and set up complete SOP's along with extensive technical and cultural training programs. ScinoPharm has developed specialties in several important areas of chemistry, including heterocyclics, steroids, macrolides, peptides, and oligonucleotides (including antisense).
Mainland China and India Connections
ScinoPharm is well-connected to Chinese and Indian commercial-scale technologies, low-cost raw materials and intermediate suppliers. In addition, ScinoPharm benefits from an industry network of worldwide contacts and resources, especially in Mainland China. ScinoPharm's 60-strong process R&D Center near Shanghai plus its close alliance with the large Uni-President's Group gives it on-the-ground-in-China working knowledge and connections to important governmental groups that facilitate customers in working or establishing operations in this large country.
Strong Generic Product Portfolio
ScinoPharm scientists have currently developed commercial processes for 15 generic products and it currently serves 49 customers. Nine new generic products are currently under development, and 9 more are in the evaluation stage. ScinoPharm's first commercially-produced product shipped in 2003, and 9 - 15 additional ones will launch in 2004.
Intense Customer Orientation
ScinoPharm has trained all of its technical personnel in the methods and techniques of Project Management (.pdf) as it relates to API customers and their projects. The R&D organization is matrixed and assigned to individual customer projects so as ensure dedicated commitment to each.
Well-developed Work Habits and HR Development
Taiwan's education and work ethos are world-renowned. ScinoPharm has developed extensive career and managerial development training programs so as to capitalize on their intense interest and capability at learning. This has produced an extremely well-educated work force (e.g., almost all chemical operators have a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering) that takes no coffee breaks, sleeps in the plant when projects are running around the clock, and is keen to learn more and more about their jobs. All training sessions as well as meetings are conducted in English.
Financial Assurance
ScinoPharm has the long-term financial backing and support of the Taiwanese government which currently owns approximately 25% of the company. It is committed to financially supporting ScinoPharm, as needed, to allow it to develop into a major global supplier of API services and products. Its development fund is large and renewable each year by the Taiwan government. The other major investor, Uni-president's Group, owns over 40% of ScinoPharm. It is one of Taiwan's largest, most respected and successful companies. Its Chairman is also ScinoPharm's Chairman.
