ScinoPharm Taiwan Focuses on Metabolic Syndrome Awareness by Promoting Balanced Plant-Based Meals for Employees
In recent years, changing lifestyles have made metabolic syndrome an increasingly significant public health concern. According to Taiwan’s Health Promotion Administration, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among adults aged 20 to 64 has reached 24.8%, meaning one in every four adults is affected. Without proper management, the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovascular disease may increase substantially. The World Health Organization also estimates that approximately 41 million people worldwide die from chronic diseases each year, accounting for 71% of all global deaths.
To raise awareness of healthy eating and disease prevention, ScinoPharm Taiwan has joined the “Half Your Plate Fruits and Vegetables for Better Health” initiative organized by the Taiwan Millennium Health Foundation. By integrating the initiative into the workplace, the company encourages employees to practice balanced eating habits starting from their daily meals, while reinforcing its dual commitment to employee well-being and environmental sustainability.
Improving Metabolic Syndrome Through “Half Your Plate Fruits and Vegetables for Better Health”
The “Half Your Plate Fruits and Vegetables for Better Health” initiative aligns with the Plant-Based Diet concept advocated by the global sustainable food movement organization EAT-Lancet. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and antioxidant phytochemicals that help maintain overall health and may reduce the risks of colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
ScinoPharm Taiwan has long focused on therapeutic areas including oncology, hematology, central nervous system disorders, and metabolic diseases, while actively advancing the development of GLP-1 related APIs and Drug Products. In parallel with its commitment to pharmaceutical innovation, the company also places strong emphasis on employee wellness and disease prevention, encouraging colleagues to pay greater attention to their personal health through healthier daily habits.
Centered on the concept of “starting change from the dining table,” ScinoPharm Taiwan optimized its employee cafeteria menu by increasing the proportion of fruits and vegetables, making it easier for employees to adopt balanced dietary habits in their everyday lives. In addition, plant-based foods generally generate lower carbon emissions than animal-based products. Choosing locally sourced fruits and vegetables can further reduce transportation distances, logistics-related emissions, and food storage energy consumption, creating additional environmental benefits and contributing to broader sustainability goals.
As metabolic syndrome and chronic diseases continue to affect younger populations, enhancing health awareness and establishing proper dietary and lifestyle habits have become increasingly important for society as a whole. Through this collaboration, employees are not only encouraged to actively practice healthier behaviors themselves, but also to share concepts of healthy eating and health management with their families and social circles, gradually expanding the positive impact beyond the workplace into households and local communities.
Looking ahead, ScinoPharm Taiwan will continue to focus on public health and sustainable development initiatives by leveraging corporate resources and collaborating with external partners to promote more health and sustainability programs, contributing to a healthier, more resilient, and sustainable society.
